Sizes and Pricing
At Womanist Wear, we believe that inclusion is not optional — it’s essential. That’s why every item we sell costs the same, no matter the size. Whether you wear a size S or a size 5X, you’ll pay the same price.
We know that in many places, larger sizes are either not available or come with a higher price tag. That’s not just unfair — it’s exclusion disguised as business. We reject that. Our pricing reflects our commitment to community, accessibility, and body justice. We don’t pass on extra costs to people whose bodies have historically been marginalized, policed, or priced out of fashion.
Our goal is to ensure that every body can show up, speak out, and be seen — in clothes that affirm their power, reflect their truth, and feel like home. We’re committed to offering a full range of sizes and to continuing to grow that range as our capacity expands. Because liberation looks like access, and inclusion should never cost extra.
History
The term "womanist" was coined by author and activist Alice Walker in her 1982 book In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens: Womanist Prose. It emerged as a response to the limitations of mainstream feminism, which often failed to account for the intersecting experiences of race, gender, and class faced by Black women. Walker defined a womanist as someone committed to the survival and wholeness of an entire people — someone whose activism is rooted in culture, spirituality, community, and fierce love. Womanism recognizes the power, beauty, and struggle in Black womanhood, and calls for liberation that is collective and grounded.
While reading texts about intersectionality and womanism as a graduate and PhD student, I felt a deep desire for a space that didn’t just reflect these values in theory — but in practice, design, and production.
Womanist Wear Clothing was born out of that need: not just to wear clothes, but to wear convictions. While some create fashion for the sake of trend, I create it as testimony — clothing that aligns with who I am, is worn by people like me, and supports the communities I belong to. Every piece is intentional. Every phrase is political. And every stitch is guided by the ethics and ancestral wisdom that fuel this work. These deep roots — in resistance, creativity, and care — drive this brand and the people behind it to build something meaningful, sustainable, and transformative.
